My timing could have been better
It's official, Mary is getting braces. The regular dentist recommended a look by an orthodontist and he confirmed the need. Her upper palate is too narrow and her bottom teeth have all ready started to move. So, she's getting braces on the bottom and a spacer on top to open up her palate. This is all preemptive stuff. She's still going to need braces when she's older (15), but this is going to make it a lot easier for her then. Especially the upper palate, apparently that can only be corrected by surgery once they reach 10 or so.
Today was her first appointment, she had rubber bands put on her upper back molars to start making room for the permanent bands in a few weeks.
The dental tech recommended that Mary avoid any chewy candy. Which brings me to my comment about timing. She was not happy when I told her we'd have to go through her candy bag and remove the gooey stuff.
I'm such a mean mom.
