I got a job!
A paying one, that is.
We've been struggling lately with finding that elusive balance between income & expenses. I also need to get out of the house more - without the kids in tow. It suddenly dawned on me that a part-time job would take care of both problems.
I jumped on Craigslist (an amazing site, by the way) and quickly found a few leads. Last week, the big lead was a spa receptionist. I interviewed on Friday and thought I had the job. But, they're not ready to hire yet. "Soon," but no definite dates. I thought I'd keep looking.
Yesterday, I started viewing the online classifieds again. Found an ad for retails sales at LaChoclatier Bakery. Emailed my application around 2:30 p.m. The owner, Lia, called me yesterday evening and interviewed me today.
I thought it was just cakes, but I was wrong! Apparently Lia has hired an artisan baker, so there will be artisan breads in addition to cakes, pies & truffles. They're planning an Italian cafe on the retail side. In addition to all the yummies, they will offer beverages.
She's also hired a sales manager who is drumming up all sorts of business for them, so there is no shortage of demand. Lia wants all of the staff to help in all aspects, so I'll get a chance to bake as well. :o)
I'm going to start working on Saturdays. As the business expands, I'll start getting weekday evening shifts as well. Right now, the bakery is only open until 5 during the week. Either they'll change their hours, or I'll be working in the back.
Training starts next week!
