Shhh! Don't tell Daddy...

I've been keeping this quiet since I'm hoping she'll surprise Daddy at the airport - Meaghan is walking! She got serious about it yesterday, walking every chance she could. As I suspected, she's gaining skill rapidly. She's had the ability for a while now, but only recently the desire.

For those with the bandwidth, I've posted a video showing Meaghan in action. It's 9.8MB, click here to view it.

Sean is in the air as I type this. He'll have been travelling for nearly 24 hours by the time he gets off the plane in Norfolk, so it will be an interesting weekend. Don't know how understanding the girls will be about leaving Daddy alone long enough to nap. Ah well, they say you should power through the day and skip naps when adjusting to jet lag.

It was an interesting day at our house. (When isn't it?) Our baggage shipment was due to be delivered today. Called the dispatcher at 8 am and was told the crew would definitely be here by Noon. At 2 pm, I called for an update and was told the crew was wrapping up in Suffolk and would be there "in an hour." I knew that was a crock, so I figured they'd be here at 4 pm. At 4:30 pm, I called the dispatcher again for an update. They had left the prior job over an hour ago, so they should be there "soon." About 20 minutes later, Mom saw a moving truck drive by our house. She yelled out, "Hooray, the movers are here." Then, they weren't. They did a u-turn in our cul-de-sac and off they went. About 5 minutes later, my cell phone rang. It was the driver, trying to figure out where we were. Turns out they had the wrong house number.

So, the 2-man crew pulls up at 5 pm. They've been working since 7 am. I know that they want to just unload the boxes and go home. I gently inform them that I will be needing help unpacking. (It's part and parcel to military moves, but many folks don't utilize it. I skipped the unpack during one PCS move and it took us hours to get all our kitchen stuff unwrapped. It's just not worth it to me.) They weren't happy about it, but they were professional about it and didn't take it out on me or our stuff. I bought them pizza for dinner, I think that helped.

We've got our kitchen gear, some toys and most of our linens and bathroom stuff. Unfortunately, there is some breakage. Including one of the kimchi pots I bought to decorate my yard. That's probably the one item that I'm most disappointed about, but thankfully I have three others to help me remember Korea. One of the boxes has water damage, so everything in it stinks. Of course, some of my cook books were in that box as well. Most of the other damaged items are replaceable.

So, the kitchen is a wreck and there are stinky sheets and towels in my linen closet. Still, it's our stuff and it's here. Which will be even better when we see Daddy tomorrow! Posted by Picasa

All this baggage, breakage, moldage talk is making me really, really nervous.

I've never had many problems (a broken computer monitor and a piano keyboard), so I am due. Oh, man, am I due.

Glad you are slowly but surely unpacking and getting settled.
