We had a productive trip to the US Embassy today! Got the paperwork started for Meaghan's "report of birth" (the overseas equivelant to a state birth certificate) and have to submit just one more form & passport photos to get her passport squared away. We were pleasantly surprised at how smoothly everything went. They were a little surprised by my homebirth; the officer who interviewed us said of the thousands of birth reports he's personally processed, we were the first homebirth. Thankfully, he was cool about it. Sean and I both had to sign an affidavit saying Meaghan was our daughter. I also brought a copy of my prenatal medical records as well as the labor record (Cathi's notes during my labor), which they took copies of. The officer felt those three sets of documents would be enough.
So, in addition to Meaghan going in for her first pediatric check-up tomorrow, she'll be getting her passport photo taken as well. Hopefully, we'll have everything turned in by the end of the week!
