OK, a few folks are curious about what my new job will entail. I don't have specifics yet, but thought I'd share what I know so far. The short answer is, I will be a Military Spouse Virtual Assistant. Here's the spiel from the program I'm in - "A Virtual Assistant is an independent contractor working from home, providing support services to businesses--ranging from 'secretarial' work to bookkeeping to complex corporate consulting--via email, phone and fax."

I'll basically be setting up my own home business and offering my services for hire. Haven't nailed down exactly what skills I'll offer, but they will likely include database management, business plan writing, desktop publishing, internet research and website design to name a few. I'm starting to work on a business plan that will iron out all the details and will attend a 3-day training session in a few weeks. The training will help me assess my readiness to be an entrepreneur and self-employed, then help me launch & market the business. Meanwhile, I've been devouring the Small Business Administration website, there is a wealth of information out there for an entrepreneur.

The possibilities are endless, and I've got a ton of ideas rolling around in my head. For now I'm trying to stay focused on the short-term stuff like drafting a business plan. Stay tuned!
