Mary's left eye has been drifting inward when she focuses on things close up, so she saw the eye doc today. She did great reading the charts (she's getting quite good at her letters!). Initially, the doc couldn't find anything, so he recommended we dilate her pupils to get a better look. The eye drops were the worst part.
They had to put 3 drops in each eye, and the corpsman was not quite sure what to do with a kid. I finally stepped in and "helped" him get her in a better position. She was freaking out from the sensation of the drops and he just kept backing off (dragging it out!). Finally, I had Mary lay on the floor and she was relatively calmer. PHEW! Very stressful. Thankfully, that was the worst of it. It turns out that kids her age are normally far-sighted, but she's on the very high end of the range. That's what's causing her one eye to drift. So, the doc gave us an eyeglass Rx (+1.25 in each eye) and we go back in 2 months to see how they're working. So, nothing majorly wrong, but definitely worth addressing before it gets worse. Will be interesting to see how she handles wearing glasses.
Between the drops & waiting for them to take effect, we ended up spending 2 hours at the eye doc. Then, we went and got a treat for Mary as promised. Found some cute frames for her at the eyeglass place, even better they were only $18. The actual Rx cost more, LOL! Then, we went to McD's drive-thru for dinner (convenience = happy mom). I'm now enjoying my last solo evening for a while, Sean pulls in tomorrow morning. - WOOHOO!
